Dressed to Chill

shirt. dkny thrift
dress. hanjiro
cardigan. hanjiro
coat. fcuk
gloves. picot
tights and socks. ???

It's too chilly to go outside!! But I am bundled up in all my layers, and I bought a pair of gloves on the way home today. I'll be all set for winter once I find something that will warm my face without making it look like I'm about to rob a bank.

Today was my first day back at work, it was okay I guess but I was dead tired and all I could think of was going home and crawling into my bed with the heat cranked up and watching Sherlock Holmes (the 1940's version). But Thursdays I have guitar lessons so I got home late, but exciting news!! I bought tickets to see JUSTICE perform in Tokyo next Thursday! I'm going with a friend and we are pumped! I haven't been to any events this big in Japan so I can't wait! I'm already planning what to wear while TTHHEE PPAARRTTYY plays on loop in my head.

Anyways, so I got home and this is what I did.
I blend in...

Go Bears!

button up. dkny
sweater. levi's from goodwill(thrift)
cal letterman jacket. Chicago (thrift)
pants. fcuk

I love my new jacket, I found it at a used clothing store called Chicago in Harajuku, it's one of my favorite places to shop in that area, they have great stuff and worth checking out if you like used/vintage clothing.
Sadly I didn't actually go to Cal (UC Berkeley), but my dad went there for his Master's and Ph.D so I often went and hung out on the campus ever since I was little. I miss Berkeley a lot, so this jacket makes me feel a little closer to home.

Oh and I see it's 2012 already... and I've been M.I.A. most of 2011.
Today is my last day of winter break before I start work again tomorrow morning.
I should be getting to sleep soon, but this is the last project for my winter break. (When I have a few days off work I think of things to do just so I can feel productive, otherwise I sleep three days straight and wonder where the days went. My other projects include writing a song about how much I hate vodka and fixing the holes in my clothing.)

My first project of the new year was painting a self portrait to try to cleanse my vodka drenched soul from all the partying of New Year's Eve... it was not the best nights of my life, but surely one to remember. Long story short, vodka is not my friend. You probably got that by now.

I haven't done a self portrait in years, and I really want to get back into painting. Since I graduated design school, I haven't done much of anything. My sewing machine case is turning grey from dust :(
I smell a New Year's Resolution list cooking... psyche! I hate those things one year gives me too much time to procrastinate and I'll just end up renewing it the following year anyways, but I will do a lot this year, not a promise, but fact.

And lastly, to welcome the year of the dragon, here is my dragon pose.
I will just whip this pose out whenever someone says happy new year.
Happy New Year guys! And I'll post again next year!

...just kidding! ...hopefully

Earthquake

denim dress. levi's
sweater. thrift
shorts. thrift
stockings & socks. tutuanna
mini flashlight. yodobashi camera
make do backdrop. my blanket

So there was a giant earthquake (magnitude of 9) in Japan on Friday. I live in Tokyo so it wasn't as bad as up North, but it was still pretty big. And the scary part is that there is still a 70% chance that there will be an earthquake of magnitude 7 or more within this week. There are rolling blackouts and most of the train lines are stopped. So I couldn't go in to work today. On the bright side I was able to update this blog.

Since I have some time on my hands I will update on what has been going on. I spent the month of February living in Narita for my new job as an International Buyer (in training). It was just training so now I am back in Tokyo in my dorm. But I am moving again to another place since I graduated Design School.

My graduation was supposed to be today, but it got canceled because the Kudan Kaikan Hall where it was supposed to be held collapsed on Friday due to the earthquake. It was really shocking to hear and I feel grateful that the earthquake didn't strike today or else I could have been inside.

The supermarkets and convenience stores are almost sold out because people are buying food and water in panic. I went to buy a flashlight on Saturday and they were almost all sold out!! I was only able to get a mini one and a book light (just in case i get bored in the dark).

So yea, things are pretty hectic here but since I'm stuck in my room it's pretty quiet.
Just scary because every I try to relax there's a small aftershock coming by every hour or so. They aren't big at all, but it just seems like they are leading up to another giant earthquake which scares me. I have a jug of water on the ground to check if the dizziness I feel is the earthquake or just my imagination.

Anyways, I really hope that if the earthquake strikes my family and I will be okay. And all my friends in Japan and every where in the world will not be hurt. And I just hope that things will get better for everyone being affected by the earthquake.
I know that there's so much that I can be doing to help, and I feel so guilty for hiding out in my room doing nothing.

I spread my love to you Japan. 皆の安全を心から願っています。

it's been awhile

happy new year!!

first post of 2011, things have somewhat settled down for me, but next week i will move to Narita to train for my new job. i will be staying in a temporary apartment which is super close to the airport! i am training to become an international buyer, honestly i have no idea what i am supposed to do, but hopefully i don't screw up too bad. this is all really new to me so i am a little scared i might breakdown and go crazy. i don't know anyone in Narita (seriously it's in like the middle of nowhere) and it is the first time i will be actually living by myself (i live in a dorm) so please excuse me if i reenact scenes from the shining. but on the bright side i heard Narita is really cold and it might be snowing while i am there! quite exciting!
